Synopsis (entirely fictional!): From January 2022 the UK government want to move from a National Treatment Service (labelled as the current NHS) to a genuine National Health Service. Greater funding will be invested into healthy lifestyle and sporting infrastructure whilst the free healthcare we are used to will be removed. Free healthcare will only be available to those who can prove they meet strict Public Health guidelines such as ‘Eating 5 fruit and veg aday’, ‘being smoke free’ and ‘meeting national physical activity guidance for their age’.
Social Care and Mental Health services will be unaffected but any form of preventable lifestyle disease caused by obesity, physical inactivity, smoking or poor diet will no longer be treatable for free on the NHS unless individuals can demonstrate they have met the Public Health guidelines. Treatment for those not adhering to the guidelines will have to be paid through health insurance, upfront cash or government loans. If an individual does not sign up to this they will not receive treatment.
‘The people’ move to challenge this radical change in stance and support. They will be setting out to evidence a lack of morality to this change as well as evidence that this change is not for the greater good of our nation as a whole.
