E-Cigarette Statement:

You may have seen information in the news towards the end of last year about the safety of e-cigarettes so having reviewed the latest information/evidence, we thought it would be helpful to put together a Thrive Tribe statement to reflect our approach on this, which is as follows:

E-cigarettes are still a relatively new product, any long-term risks of which we do not yet know, however they are likely 95% safer than smoking tobacco as they do not produce carbon monoxide or the same high levels of inhaled hydrocarbons and toxic chemicals. E-cigarettes and vaping products that have not been purchased from a legal and reputable source are likely to carry a greater risk.

Thrive Tribe cannot recommend or provide E-cigarettes or vaping products (with the exception of a pilot in East Sussex supported by our commissioners there), however we are happy to provide support to smokers who wish to use them to quit smoking.

New physical activity guidelines from the UK's Chief Medical Officer:

You may be aware that new guidance came into place in September last year that supersedes the physical activity guidelines of 2011 from the Chief Medical Officer of the UK. The guidance has a greater focus on physical activity for particular age groups and specific cohorts of people, such as those who are pregnant, or disabled, and re-iterates the recommendations in the 2011 guidelines around the importance of doing regular strength and balance activity and the new evidence around the benefits of frequency/intensity of physical activity.

We've summarised the key points/changes which you can read here and the full guidance from the Chief Medical Officer here
